A Missile in the Laundry Basket
You will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Ephesians 6:16, NASB.
Myra, a foreign exchange student, returned to Kosovo the week war broke out between the Serbs and the Kosovars. Having given her heart to Jesus while in the United States, the high school junior was eager to share her new faith with her family.
Her opportunity came when the Serbian army fired on a Kosovar neighborhood near Myra's home. At the first sound of gunfire Myra and her family ran into their windowless laundry room and crouched beside the washing machine.
While Myra prayed for protection a Serb missile shot through their parlor window and skittered down the hall to the washroom, landing in a basket of clean clothes. Myra squealed with joy. “See, Dad? My God did protect us.”
“It was a dud,” her father scoffed.
When the attack ended, he tossed the unexploded bomb into the street. Later the town militia retrieved the missile and tossed it onto a scrap heap at the edge of town, where the “dud” exploded, sending fragments and debris in all directions.
No one can convince Myra that God's incredible promises are out of this world. Even her parents are wondering if their daughter might be right.
